Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the leader of the Balochistan National Party (BNP-M), announced his resignation from the National Assembly on Tuesday due to the deteriorating circumstances in the province.
He also expressed his lack of trust in the government, the president, and the prime minister.
“Today, I formally announce my resignation from the Assembly. I took this decision after seeing the state of affairs in Balochistan,” Mengal declared in the National Assembly.
The politician expressed regret that he was unable to assist the people of the province and stated that he did not trust the system as a whole. They have not been granted the authority to rule for a year.
The concerns of Balochistan are uninteresting to the public, and each time they are brought up, there is a blackout,” he stated. “Why are we seated here if this parliament is not listening to us?”
Mengal stated in an interview with media that his conscience guides his decision-making. He wondered where they would go if all the roads leading to the Parliament were closed.
Mengal, a member of NA-256, claimed that he was forced to take this action due to the current circumstances in Balochistan.
“This House has a history of marginalizing and ignoring our province. We are forced to reevaluate our jobs because we are being pushed farther and harder against the wall every day.”
“Voices like mine have been unable to effect significant change in this assembly because the people of Balochistan are not fairly represented,” the resignation letter stated.
Mengal said that they encounter “hostility” when they want to express themselves or protest. Either our people are hushed, called traitors, or worse, they are slaughtered.”
