PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto inaugurated Benazir Hari Card to support farmers and agriculture sector.
As the sector is facing climate change and other threats, Bilawal says the Hari card is a beginning to support farmers. He was addressing the inauguration ceremony at Karachi.
“We want such a great insurance policy for Haris, so they could feel safe and protected,”.
He sees agriculture sector as the only sector which could steer the country out of crises.
“We have an easy way through this Hari Card to incentivise the crops and support farmers.”
The floods, he said, caused huge damage to the agriculture, and in the given situation, this card would financially support the haris.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, cabinet members and officials from different department also attended.
“After BISP, now we have launched Benazir Hari Card,” said Bilawal, announcing full support for the agriculture sector.
“We represent the lower sections of the society. We launched BISP to empower the women. The whole world has recognized this initiative. BISP helped in eradicatino of poverty,”.
He said that many countries including India have launched programmes like BISP. He stated that such initiatives had started in the era of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
“We gave ownership rights to the farmers during Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s era. The farmers aware of the efforts of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for them.”
Referring to the struggle of his mother, Bilawal said that Benazir took many initiatives to support the farmers.
“Today, we are seeing that every segment is worried and is facing many challenges. It is our responsibility that we should take step to support the haris.”
“Climate change is now a reality. It is a big threat. Floods have caused damage to the crops very badly,” said Bilawal.
He stated that besides climate change, there are also many other challenges. Mafia, he said, were working to target this sector.
“Many want to see agriculture section as de-regulated. Their wishes will cause trouble to the farmers. Investment and support is needed for agriculture. And this is the only way to strenthen the national economy,”.
He said, “But we want to regulate this agriculture sector. We need to incentivize it, so we could deal with the challenges threatening to our agriculture sector. We need to support our Hari through regulations,”. He said they decided to launch Benazir Hari Card to support the Hari [farmers].
“I’m grateful to the Sindh government for this iniatitve for Haris [farmers],” he added. He explained that regulation meant support for the farmers during the difficult times.
