Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman reached conclusion in an important meeting on upcoming important legislation, said Shazia Marri, the PPP leader, revealed on Tuesday.
Shazia Marri said that the meeting between Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman took place in a cordial atmosphere.
“The ice has melted” and they have reached conclusions, said Shazia.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman discussed the national political issues and the proposed 26th constitutional amendment.
According to the sources, both leaders agreed to finalize the draft of the proposed 26th constitutional amendment with the involvement of all parliamentary parties and to continue dialogue to reach a consensus, which would be presented in the National Assembly after mutual agreement on the final draft.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman concurred that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting was promising and would contribute to regional stability.
After the meeting, Shazia Marri told the media that the discussion between the JUI chief and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was pleasant, with positive exchanges from both sides.
She said that Bilawal emphasized the historic relationship between JUI and PPP, recalling their collaboration during the 18th Amendment. She stated that both parties have had a clear intent regarding legislation and constitutional matters, maintaining strong working relations in the past.
Marri highlighted the importance of political dialogue today, asserting that nothing is impossible, and discussions were held regarding political matters from both sides. She expressed hope for a joint draft from PPP and JUI, which could then be presented to other parties for their input.
She affirmed their commitment to finding political solutions to issues, recalling that political dialogue led to the acquisition of the country and the constitution. Marri indicated that the meeting felt positive, and significant progress was made.
She mentioned that the aim is to prepare a consensus draft between JUI and PPP, with ongoing discussions to ensure that constitutional amendments are not contradictory. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari desires political consensus and non-controversial constitutional amendments.
Regarding the meeting between Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, she stated that all aspects were discussed and emphasized that they are willing to engage with every party for the sake of the country, noting that important political dialogue occurred between the two major parties.
Shazia Marri added that they have reached results in today’s meeting.
