To move forward with judicial reform amendments to the Constitution, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has resumed discussions with Maulana Fazlur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F).
Bhutto led a delegation that included senior PPP figures like Syed Khurshid Shah, Naveed Qamar, and Murtaza Wahab.
On the JUI-F side, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, Maulana Abdul Wasay, Asad Mehmood, Kamran Murtaza, Usman Badini, and Maulana Misbahuddin participated in the talks.
Syed Khurshid Shah, who serves as a spokesperson for JUI, noted that the meeting was part of a continuous dialogue aimed at bringing various political factions on board with the proposed reforms.
Shah commented, “We’ve briefed Maulana Fazlur Rehman and discussed the previously disputed elements of the amendments. The contentious clauses have been revised.”
He emphasized that the parliament’s legislative authority must not be compromised and reaffirmed PPP’s commitment to advancing the reform bill after securing the backing of all political parties involved.
Previously, Bilawal Bhutto held important discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to gather support for the amendments.
Meanwhile, the government has postponed the sessions of the National Assembly and Senate indefinitely, delaying any further consideration of the proposed constitutional changes.
