Interim chief minister of Sindh, Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, gave the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) instructions to award extra marks to Part I students of pre-engineering, pre-medical, and general science.
The directives were given by the CM as he was endorsing the fact-finding committee’s conclusions, which was established to look into Intermediate Part-I students having unusually low grades in 2023.
In-charge IT section BIEK removed
Following the committee’s report submission to the chief minister, in charge IT section BIEK, was removed from his position.
The committee instructed to create a marking scheme and patterns for papers before the start of the school year.
The chief minister of Sindh issued an order to expand the number of paper inspection facilities in the city to ten. In order to ensure there are no errors, he said, the multiple-choice questions (MCQs) should be examined using an optical mark recognition system.
The BIEK published the Part-I (first year) test results on January 23. The findings showed a worrying drop in the students’ performance.
On the other hand, college professors have rejected the decision to give grace marks and demanded thorough rechecks of answer copies in order to address the irregularities and maintain the credibility of the testing procedure.
