Former US President Barack Obama and his spouse Michelle Obama made a strong case for Americans to support Kamala Harris in her last-ditch presidential effort against Republican Donald Trump on Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
As Harris attempts to become the first woman and Black and South Asian person to be elected US president on November 5, Obama, the country’s first Black president, has poured his substantial political capital behind her.
Four more years of bluster, gaffes, and mayhem are not what we need. Obama addressed delegates on Day Two of the Chicago convention, saying, “We have seen the film before, and we all know that the next one is usually worse.”
“A new chapter is at coming for America. Better stories are what America is waiting for. Kamala Harris is qualified to be president.”
“Joe Biden will go down in history as a president who stood up for democracy when it was seriously threatened. Obama replied, “We love Joe,” to applause. “I am proud to call him my president, but even more proud to call him my friend.”
Michelle Obama, Obama’s wife, gave the opening address. She is the Democratic Party’s top pick to be the next president.
Michelle Obama spoke to “America, hope is making a comeback,” referencing her husband’s 2008 presidential campaign.
She did not hold back in her warning, stating unequivocally that Trump will attempt to twist Harris’ story, just as he did “everything in his power to try to make americans fear us.”
