At least one person was killed in an attack by some criminal elements on an air force base in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Army has confirmed the attack.
According to sources, the deceased has been identified as 30-year-old local businessman Shahab Kabir, who was allegedly shot dead.
A brief statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the public relations agency of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, said, “Some criminals attacked the air force base from Samitipara near the Cox’s Bazar Air Force Base.
The Bangladesh Air Force is taking necessary steps in this regard. According to reports, the attack took place after a land dispute, which escalated into a clash between Air Force personnel and residents on Monday morning.
The situation turned serious during the clash when locals started pelting stones, resulting in injuries on both sides. However, authorities did not give the exact number of injured.
According to medical sources, Shahab Kabir was shot during the clash and was shifted to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The sources further said that the deceased had serious injuries on the back of his head.
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin said a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident to determine the reasons for the clash, and action will be taken against those responsible.
Meanwhile, security forces have tightened security measures to assess the situation and prevent further tension.
