Protestors from Balochistan on Tuesday called off their sit-in in front of the National Press Club Islamabad.
They set up the camp outside the NPC in December against the enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killing of Baloch people. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee organized the protest against state authorities.
The NPC management had written a letter to the Islamabad administration for the removal of the camp outside the club but later they withdrew the request following criticism from different segments of the society. The NPC had asked for the relocation of the camp.
Women and children were among the protestors who travelled from different areas of the province to the federal capital to lodge the protest demonstration. Dr Mahrang Baloch, a young woman who recently became an icon of Baloch rights, made fiery speeches against the authorities, demanding the recovery of the missing persons. The protestors faced the severe cold weather during a month-long sit-in.
Expressing regret, she further said the protestors would take back the memories of hate and tell the people of Balochistan what they received from the authorities. She insisted they were not opponent of the state but the state is against them.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has expressed solidarity with the protestors, expressing concerns over the move.
