Babar Azam, the former captain of Pakistan cricket team, has expressed his anger at fans who had him on his wits end.
Azam, who is currently participating in the ninth installment of Pakistan Super League (PSL) and playing for Peshawar Zalmi against, competed against Multan Sultans.
Babar Azam & ‘Zimbabar’ chants
During the match where Azam was sitting on the sidelines with the technical staff of Peshawar Zalmi in the stadium, a crowd of fans got on Azam’s nerves when they started chanting “Zimbabar” that visibly irritated him. The 29-year-old cricketer had enough of the trolls and signaled to throw a water bottle at the crowd.
Losing his cool, the former captain openly expressed his anger at the phrase “Zimbabar” which trolls made online. “Zimbabar” is a mocking term used to annoy the right-hand batsman for scoring more runs against weaker teams like Zimbabwe and failing to produce a remarkable score against tougher teams.
In the video, Azam can also be seen mouthing a few words in anger before threatening to throw the water bottle at the spectators who had him agitated. The cricketer, however, kept his grace intact, stopped himself from seeing red, and sat on his chair to focus on the match instead of paying attention to the crowd.

Being one of the most celebrated and accomplished players in Pakistan’s cricket field, Azam is named among the country’s most prolific players across formats. His performance has even landed him in comparison with Indian ace player Virat Kohli.
However, over the last few years, Azam’s performance has been unsatisfactory as he failed to keep up his legacy. In one of the matches against Zimbabwe, Azam averaged 57.75 across all international formats hence the term Zimbabar.
More recently, the Pakistani player lost his captaincy in all formats after Pakistan failed to reach the semifinals of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The Cricket Board then named Shan Masood as the new Test captain, while Shaheen Afridi was handed the white-ball duties.
