The white-ball team captain of Pakistan, Babar Azam, explained the reasons for the exclusion of Mohammad Haris and Aamir Jamal from the squad during a press conference held in advance of the country’s next tour of Ireland and England.
Regarding Mohammad Haris’ removal, Babar said he was a skilled player but that the team management had not been satisfied with his performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 and that this was the reason for his exclusion.
The captain pointed out that it was challenging for Mohammad Haris to get into the team since Pakistan already had talented top-order batsmen like Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, and Mohammad Rizwan.
Additionally, he explained that although Aamir Jamal has demonstrated promise in test cricket, the selection committee decided not to include him in the team because of his lackluster PSL performances.
When choosing the national team, Babar Azam stressed the value of consistent performance, especially in the T20 format.
The captain’s remarks highlight the selectors’ emphasis on current form and format flexibility in their pursuit of fielding a competitive and well-rounded team for the next T20 World Cup.
