Pakistan witnessed a significant break from tradition with the appointment of Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari, as the country’s First Lady.
Traditionally, the First Lady title is bestowed upon the President’s wife. However, with the tragic passing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Zardari faced a unique situation. Choosing Aseefafa for this role highlights the close bond between father and daughter.
her appointment carries a deeper meaning for many Pakistanis. People who admired Benazir see a reflection of her spirit in Asifa.

The news comes after Zardari’s inauguration as the 14th President of Pakistan on Sunday. This historic second term makes him the only civilian leader besides military rulers to hold the office twice.
Zardari secured a decisive victory with 411 electoral votes, defeating his opponent Mehmood Khan Achakzai. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa administered the oath at the President’s House, with dignitaries including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and outgoing President Arif Alvi in attendance.
