People in Pakistan will have two consecutive public holidays in mid-July 2024 in honor of Ashura, which takes place on Muharram 9 and 10.
The federal government has already incorporated these two holidays to its holiday calendar for 2024.
The dates of the Georgian holidays will be determined following the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s judgment on the Muharram Moon sighting.
If the moon is seen on July 6, the first day of Muharram in Pakistan will be observed on July 7, and Aushra would fall on July 15 and 16. Public holidays will be observed on July 15 and 16 (Monday and Tuesday, respectively).
The new Islamic year begins on July 8, and Ashura will be commemorated on July 16 and 17. In this instance, the public holidays will be July 16 and 17 (Tuesday and Wednesday).
As per early reports government has also decided to not halt mobile phone services on Muharram 9 and 10.
