SWABI: Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser revealed on Wednesday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder had thrice offered him the presidency.
“I want to reveal one secret to you (people): former premier Imran Khan offered me presidency three times, but I refused due to protocol,” Asad Qaiser told a public gathering held in connection with the party’s campaign for elections 2024.
He claimed that he always preferred public service, development, and prosperity of his people to posts and positions.
“Being speaker of the National Assembly, he strived hard for the development of his constituency and welfare of its people”, the ex-NA speaker stated.
Meanwhile, Asad Qaiser urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to play a more vibrant and impartial role in conducting a ‘free and fair’ elections in the country.
Criticizing the election commission’s role as ‘biased’ and worst, he urged the electoral watchdog to exercise its power and authority as a “neutral institution.”
“Such elections will not bring in stability, rather will sow the seed of discontent and destruction in Pakistan,” Asad Qaiser pointed out. Accusing the ECP of “supporting” a political party, he stated that despite the worst pre-poll rigging tactics, the PTI would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.
Asad Qaiser claimed that the PTI is still popular among the people, alleging that the opposition is playing dirty tactics to ‘rule out’ the senior leadership of PTI from the general election arena.
