The tech giant, Apple has offered additional investment in Indonesia to end the ban on the sale of its iPhone 16 series.
This move came forward after the Indonesian government banned the sale of the iPhone 16 and Watch 10 in October 2024.
The Indonesian ban was imposed because of Apple’s non-fulfillment of investment commitments. The company had earlier promised an investment of $100 million, but delivered only $9.5 million, leading to a ban by the government.
According to the reports, Apple has offered to invest another $100 million over the next two years.
The Indonesian Ministry of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has asked Apple to focus more on research and smartphone production in its investment projects.
Previously the minister remarked that, Iphone 16 is an illegal device and please report it. He added, “The Ministry of Industry imposed a ban and Apple hasn’t fulfilled certain commitments.”
Tech company strives to seamlessly reach Indonesia’s 278 million consumers, most of them smartphone enthusiasts and under the age of 44.
The tech giant also agreed to establish research and development centers in Indonesia under its “Apple Academies” program.
Meanwhile, some consumers looking to purchase Huawei’s premium phone were left disappointed by its unavailability.
While it remains unclear whether Apple will adhere to the sales ban, the Indonesian government has stated its intent to enforce the regulation.
