Apoorva Makhija, social media influencer, has been recently expelled from the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) list of promoters.
Following a rising controversy over podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s comments on the comedy programme India’s Got Latent, where Makhija also served as a panellist, the decision comes.
The IIFA awards for this year will take place on March 89 in Jaipur. Makhija was originally listed among the promoters of the event, but legal cases against several comedians and celebrities connected to India’s Got Latent, as well as public outrage, have led her official separation from IIFA.
IIFA officials on Friday said they had chosen in direct answer to the broad backlash stirred up from objectionable comments delivered during the program.
First starting to attract notice when Ranveer Allahbadia and fellow social media Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija were alleged to have been using inappropriate and vulgar language throughout their comedy shows.
A Kota legal complaint against these influencers filed on Thursday claiming their material supports vulgarity and erodes conventional cultural values only worsened the condition.
A group of attorneys, the complainers, contended that such content has a negative impact on society, particularly on younger viewers who could be swayed by it.
Rising public outcry has resulted in several legal challenges being filed in different parts of India, including one by the Assam Police under statutes pertaining obscenity and public morality.
Originally known during the Covid19 epidemic for her widely disseminated Instagram skits and reels, Apoorva Makhija first became a celebrity.
