Father of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, murdered in Surray, made shocking confession during a 999 call. Sara’s father Urfan Sharif, as per reports, called police from Pakistan and admitted that he had killed her daughter.
Urfan made this confession on an eight-minute phone call to the 999 operator, an hour after his family fled UK.
Urfan’s family left U.K on August 10 of last year, just before police discovered Sara’s body.
Sharif, 42, along with Sara’s stepmother Beinash Batool, 30, and her uncle Faisal Malik, 29, have all pleaded not guilty to murder Sara at the Old Bailey.
The prosecution stated that during the eight-minute call, Sharif told the operator he had no attention to kill her daughter. Sharif told Sara had been misbehaving, and in response, he beat her. “It wasn’t my intention to kill her, but I overdid it,” he reportedly told the operator.
Prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones KC told the jury that Sara had suffered repeated violence. ” Sara endured severe injuries included bruising, burns, and both fresh and older bone fractures”, prosecution told.
According to postmortem reports presented to court Sara had burns on her buttocks, probably by an iron, along with six suspected human bite marks on her arms and legs. Sara’s dental records reported that the male defendants were the source of the bite marks.
Court heard that Sara had suffered multiple injuries, including fractures to her ribs, shoulder blades, and fingers, as well as 11 fractures along her spine. There were also signs of a traumatic brain injury.
Prosecution stated that Sara had suffered more than just a beating. The injuries she sustained in weeks had been horrific and cruel.
When police discovered dead body of Sara after Sharif’s call, they also found a handwritten note by Sharif.
According to the prosecutor, the note said: “It’s me, Urfan Sharif, who killed my daughter by beating her. I,ve fled from UK but believe me I will turn myself in and face punishment. I swear I didn’t have any attention to kill her, but I lost control.”
The court heard that police discovered Sara’s body on the lower bunk of a bed under clothes as she was sleeping. “But she wasn’t asleep—she was dead,” Emlyn Jones told the jury.
Urfan, Batool and Malik all have two charges in Sara’s murder case. They were involved in causing or allowing the death of Sara and left UK before her body was found.
Jones KC highlighted that none of the defendants had alerted police to Sara’s abuse, which might have saved her life.
The trial will continue till December 13 with jurors set to hear more evidence on this case.
