Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is allegedly arrested in the capital city on Friday after arriving in Islamabad with few security officers.
CM Ali was leading the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest convey to Islamabad. Gandapur opted to leave the main group behind near Hassan Abdal for reasons that remain unclear.
Gandapur’s brother, Faisal Siddiqui, informed reporters about his arrest. PTI’s Omar Ayub also confirmed the news, while KP spokesperson Barrister Saif stated that he had lost contact with Gandapur.
However, some government sources disputed the reports, claiming that Gandapur’s arrest was not accurate.
According to the media reports, Gandapur has been arrested in an old case of liquor recovery. The leader is also facing charges of launching attacks against states and damaging states’ property.
Previously, Gandapur supporters and police erupted into chaos and unleashed thousands of short and long-range shells. Heavy machinery joined the convoy during the barrage. When Gandapur crossed the checkpoint the protesters followed him.
