Federal Minister for Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan stated that the government would undoubtedly privatize the Pakistan International Airline (PIA), but in a “better way”.
Speaking during a press conference, Aleem stated that the law required him to oversee the privatization process, according to The News.
He stated that the privatization of the national flag carrier had begun prior to his taking over the ministry’s office, and he had no authority to change that framework because it had already been established.
The federal minister said that with improved regulations and adequate money, the PIA, a national asset, could still be made viable today. He said that the government was unable to privatize it at a modest cost.
He argued that his sole duty was to privatize the PIA and that the nation was well aware that all governments had contributed indiscriminately to its development. As Minister for Communications, he claimed to have increased NHA’s profits by Rs50 billion, setting a record for any governmental organization in Pakistani history.
Aleem claimed that in order to save the impoverished people’s money, it was his national duty to work for the benefit of this nation. He claimed that in order to achieve this Rs50 billion feat, he did not start any advertising efforts, produce any articles, or run any promotional activities.
He claimed that other federal ministers who had stayed in the same department were also criticizing and opposing the PIA’s privatization.
