Dr. Aga Khan’s work in development and philanthropy is well recognised. In 2015 he opened the Ismaili community’s world (global) headquarters in Lisbon expanding its international status.
He was made the 49th hereditary imam of the Nizari Ismailis (Isma’ilis) in 1957.
This Shia Muslim community is followed by millions of people, predominantly in Asia, Africa and Middle East. At 53, his eldest son, Rahim Al-Hussaini, will become the new Aga Khan V.
A formal installation will take place next Tuesday at the Lisbon headquarters.
The gathering will be closed and in honor of the accession of the newly appointed imam.
Kheraj reiterated that the ceremony is meant to acknowledge the transfer of responsibility.
