The high profile breakup of Pakistani singer Aima Baig and actor Shahbaz Shigri is a multifaceted matter that requires both the parties’ side of the story to be known.
Back in 2022, Baig, did not get any chance to share her perspective and was mercilessly trolled with a disproportionate amount of backlash that made the Aya Lariye singer look like the bad guy. Fast forward to 2024, the Rent Free singer is finally letting her side of the story become public.

Quickly summing up the episode, Baig and Shigri had been dating since 2019 and announced their engagement in July 2021 giving their fans couple goals. In September of 2022, Baig confirmed their separation, breaking hearts of their fandom.
Post Baig’s announcement, British model Taloulah Mair alleged that the Sajna Door singer cheated on Shigri with Qes Ahmed while she was engaged to Shigri.
While netizens assumed that the cheating allegations were the reason behind their split, Baig breaks it all with her revelation suggesting that it was her decision to call off the engagement.
The Kaif O Suroor singer recently made a guest appearance on actor Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, Excuse Me, for an interview where she told her side of the story through her narrative. The Kalabaz Dil singer also shared how her family was affected by the severe criticism.
Just like any family, Baig was lucky enough to have gone through such turmoil with her siblings and father by her side, who — despite their own hurting — “pampered” her during the time period.
The Hone Do crooner also made the gut wrenching revelation that she had given up and had severe suicidal thoughts.
Despite going their separate ways, the Sadqa singer suggested that she and Shigri enjoys a “civil relationship” and “check up on each other regularly.”
“Our vibe together was too good, even today,” she commented.
Had their whirlwind breakup not received such immense spotlight, the Pyar Hua Tha singer believes that things wouldn’t be this messy. The only regret the star has is “sharing too much” of her private life that led to social media spinning its own narratives that garnered negative narratives.
“Everything got too public. Everybody cared way too much. It wasn’t that important, there were lots of other things happening in the world, but that matter was too important for everyone,” Baig said.
As for calling off the engagement, Baig revealed that it was a mutual decision. “It was both of our decisions but it was mainly my decision to not do it right now, that’s what my decision was but I think that just flipped in the wrong way.”
Although it was a mutual decision, Baig resents being the only party that was targeted. “One thing I haven’t forgotten to this day for which I still carry some resentment is that it was a mutual decision but only one person, one gender was singled out.”

All would’ve been forgotten had Baig’s family not been mentally exhausted too. The Pyar Wyar singer who recalled how her siblings would try to distract her from the tabloids’ narratives while trying to deal with their own hurting.
“But I grew up with them so I could tell there was definitely something fishy. I had my phone and when I would see what was happening, I am not going to lie, I was so adamant that I was going to give up my life, like that’s it. I have lived enough. I felt that that was the end. I didn’t want to live anymore,” she made the heartbreaking revelation.
Expressing her discontentment over being labelled the bad guy in her own story, Baig said, “I only ever wanted to sing. How did I go from being this bubbly girl to a villain? People don’t even know what type of a person I am.”
