NANKANA SAHIB: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the country was progressing when he was prime minister, but the journey to progress and prosperity was halted via a “conspiracy,” saying “he is not a leader who forgets his promises and takes U-turns.”
Addressing a public meeting in connection with his party’s election campaign in Nankana Sahib here, Nawaz Sharif kept on boasting about the PML-N government’s feats, saying the Sukkur motorway would have reached here by now, had his government not been ousted through a conspiracy.
He said he wanted to the masses to think [before voting], who ended darkness from the country by setting up power plants. “I want you all to think in whose era was sugar Rs50 per kilo? Vegetables, lentils, flour, and gas were cheaper in whose era,” he questioned.

Giving credit to the PML-N for the establishment of Gwadar Airport, Nawaz enumerated that his government brought peace to Karachi, constructed motorways throughout the country and ran Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in multiple cities. “But for all these for pro-people and good work, I was handcuffed and jailed”, he lamented. He repeated his question as to “what crime he had committed and was bringing prosperity to the country a crime?”
“In whose era did the price of roti go up from Rs4 to Rs20, sugar from Rs50 to Rs150, and the dollar rose from 104 to 275 rupees? Why did all this happen? I was not an imported prime minister; I was a local prime minister, and he [Imran Khan] was an unsuccessful one,” he asserted.
Meanwhile during her address, PML-N Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz fired broadside at Imran Khan “without mentioning his name,’ saying that Nawaz Sharif did not remove him but rather he brought trouble upon himself.
“Nawaz Sharif did not oust you through deceit and there was no conspiracy against you. Instead, you have dug your own pit,” Maryam asserted.
She emphasized that PML-N’s struggle is not against any individual but against inflation. “Our battle is against expensive electricity, gas, sugar, flour, and bread. In every era, Nawaz Sharif provided relief to the people, so on February 8, vote for the PML-N in such numbers that Nawaz Sharif can rescue you from inflation and unemployment,” she added.
