ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan appeared confident on Wednesday, saying that the candidates, contesting general elections independently after the party’s lost electoral symbol ‘bat,’ would remain loyal to the party after elections.
“Though these candidates can’t contest the elections as the PTI’s aspirants, but they could join the party after winning the polls”, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan asserted while talking to a private TV channel.
Barrister Khan pointed out the independent candidate would have to join any political party three days after winning polls, and mentioned that the party also had devised a “Plan C” which would be disclosed after the elections.
“The PTI has been trying to make the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) realize that candidates contesting elections independently will lead to ‘horse trading,” he revealed.
Barrister Gohar regretted that there was no level-playing field for the PTI, saying the party was not being allowed to carry out election campaigns, especially in Punjab. He said that nomination papers of the PTI-backed candidates were rejected, adding that they had also moved to the apex court to get a ‘level playing field’.
Commenting on PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s statement that he (PPP) would seek independents’ help to form a government, Barrister Gohar lamented that Bilawal was very much aware of the fact that in “Pakistan governments can be formed through horse-trading.”
