LAHORE: Amid ongoing cold snap, at least 18 more children died from pneumonia in Punjab during the past 24 hours.
According to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, as many 1,062 cases of pneumonia were reported during the past 24 hours across Punjab, most of them in the provincial metropolis Lahore.
The department’s data shows that a total of 4,900 pneumonia cases were in public hospitals across Punjab during January so far, out of which 780 cases were reported in Lahore.
On the other hand, the Punjab government has taken a number of measures to protect children from catching pneumonia. The government has ordered late-opening of schools at 9:30 and has banned morning assembly in schools till Jan 31.
Meanwhile, caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed grave concern over the rise of pneumonia cases among the children in Punjab.
