LAHORE: The Caretaker Punjab government on Saturday announced extending the winter vacations for schools across the province.
According to a notification issued here, the caretaker government of Punjab extended the winter vacations in schools across the province till January 9.
A meeting of the cabinet was held under the chairmanship of caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in which the decision was made to extend the winter vacations in schools across the province.
The winter vacations in Punjab in general and cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala in particular have been extended due to prevailing smog and adverse weather conditions in the region.
The Punjab School Education Department has issued an official notification today regarding an extension of winter holidays in Lahore and other cities of the province.
“In continuation of this department’s notification of even No. dared 01.12.2023 winter vacations in all Public and Private schools in the province of Punjab are herby extended up yo 09.01.2023,’ the notification issued by school department of Punjab read.
According to the official notification all the schools in across Punjab will reopen on January 10, 2024.
The notification applies solely to schools in Punjab and as of now, there is no official communication from the Punjab government regarding extensions for colleges, universities, and other educational institutions in the province.
The notification also emphasizes that the restrictions on wearing face masks within school premises will continue to be enforced
Owing to the extreme cold conditions, the parents had requested for an extension of the vacations.
During the past week, students and parents were anxious about potential extensions, with numerous false reports circulating on social media. However, it is now confirmed that winter holidays which commenced on December 18 in Punjab, will be extended until January 9.
On November 30, Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi had announced winter vacations across Punjab. Mohsin Naqvi announced that schools and colleges will remain closed from December 18 till January 1 across Punjab.
He stated that the air quality has improved in the province hence no ban will imposed in the upcoming week.
