In a latest development, Punjab University professors have boycotted the classes after the clash with Police yesterday.
Punjab University professors were protesting on the calls of Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) against the removal of rebate tax Punjab university on salaries.
According to teachers, who were protesting, new pension rules and policies will potentially damage their career.
The protest was led by PUASA President Prof Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, Secretary Dr Muhammad Islam
and other office-bearers of its executive council.
Large number of Professors gathered on the road outside campus, however, soon they met with police brutality.
Police pushed and beaten the professor present at the site of protest.
However, the teachers chanted slogans against government and called them for anti-education policies.
The protest came on the heels of a general body meeting highlighting where members expressed dissatisfaction with education policies at the federal and provincial levels.
Earlier, in the general body meeting, PU professors criticized the government’s announcement of removal rebate tax Punjab university for the teachers and researchers.
They termed it a heavy blow to the economic stability of academics nationwide.
According to the teachers, government is now withholding back pay from faculty members.
They said it will further aggravate their economic difficulties.
The members of meeting also voiced severe criticism on Punjab government for their decision related to LPR and pension.
PUASA condemned the behavior of Police officials, who mishandled the teachers.
General body meeting has been called again today to finalize future of course of action.
