President Donald Trump hold a lengthy and productive phone call with Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
The two leaders agreed to begin negotiations and discussed a potential end to Ukraine conflict.
The talks between Trump and Putin marked a significant moment, as it was first known conversation between the two presidents since Trump took office last month.
The call came as Trump made this clear to bring a swift end to the Ukraine Conflict.
According to a post he shared on social platform, Trump said he and Putin ” agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately”. They both invited each other to visit their respective capitals.
The phone call lasted nearly an hour and a half according to Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Later, Ukrainian leader Volodymer Zelensky mentioned that he had conversation with Trump discussing on reliable peace solution”.
“No one wants peace more than the Ukrainians. Together with the US, we are charting our next steps to stop Russian aggression and ensure a lasting, reliable peace,” Zelensky wrote.
Recently, Trump and his defense secretary Pete Hegseth made it clear that it is unrealistic, and very unlikely Ukraine would join NATO. US will no longer prioritize European security as the new administration wants to secure US borders and focus on deterring China.
In 2014, Following the ousting of Ukraine’s pro- Russian leader, Russia annexed Crimea and supported separatist there.
In 2022, this conflict escalated into full scale war when Russia invaded the Ukraine.
Though Moscow couldn’t succeed in taking control of Kyiv, it had taken around one-fifth of Ukraine’s territory in the east and west.
