A terrifying incident has surfaced in Jatli Rawalpindi, where a 20-year-old girl was reported poisoned and murdered.
Police have arrested five suspects of this case that includes the sister-in-law, her parents, her sister, and a neighbour of the girl.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law, Gulfraz, known as Gullu, along with their neighbor, Muhammad Amin.
After the victim got pregnant, fearing that she might disclose the matter and facing the consequences of social pressure, the culprits hatched a plan to murder her.
They allegedly poisoned her and arranged an immediate burial for her to conceal the crime.
Police soon after getting information of the above dastardly crime dug out the body and got it postmortem.
Reports revealed her sexual assault and poisoning.
Police gathered major evidence from the report, and thus, filed the murder case.
The arrested persons are:
Gulfraz alias Gullu his brother-in-law accused of both sexual assault and murder is the main culprit.
Muhammad Amin (neighbor) accused of the assault and the murder conspiracy.
Gulzar Begum, the mother and paternal aunt of the brother-in-law, is also accused of being a part of the crime planning.
Aneela Bibi, sister of the brother-in-law, has also been involved for her part in hiding the murder.
Wajahat, the driver of Gulfraz, has been detained for assisting the main suspect.
All the five suspects have been put into police custody for a four-day physical remand as the further investigation continues.
According to this, City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Hamdani, said that it would be dealt with on merit.
He said later that all the legal procedures would be performed.
There would be proper evidence for that, and the criminals would be punished accordingly.
He claimed that Rawalpindi police stand with victims and will formulate justice. Administration would ensure such people responsible for such a revolting crime would be rewarded accordingly.
This episode has once again brought the institution of gender-based violence and the need for strict measures to curb such brutal attacks on women into the limelight.
