Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been honored with the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award, recognizing his outstanding performances across both formats of the game in 2024.
The 31-year-old pacer became the fifth Indian player to receive the prestigious accolade, joining the ranks of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli.
Bumrah, reflecting on his achievement, shared, “As a young player, I watched my childhood idols win this award, so it feels amazing to join them now.”
The award ceremony also recognized Bumrah’s remarkable feat as the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, having taken 71 wickets in 13 test matches.
He played a crucial role in India’s T20 World Cup victory in the United States and the West Indies, claiming 15 wickets with exceptional stats, including an average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17, which earned him the Player of the Tournament honor.
Jasprit Bumrah fondly recalled his memories from the tournament, saying, “Winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados will always remain one of the highlights of my career.”
He also produced a memorable performance during the World Cup, taking 3 wickets for 14 runs against Pakistan in a thrilling victory in New York, and later finishing with 2 wickets for 18 runs in the final against South Africa.
