Pakistan has reported its first case of mpox known as monkeypox for 2025, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry of health, the patient, who arrived in Pakistan from Dubai on January 24, tested positive for the virus during routine screening at Peshawar Airport.
This latest case brings the total number of mpox infections in the country to ten since a health emergency was declared.
The individual is currently receiving treatment at Services Hospital in Peshawar. Authorities noted that the patient had visited several Gulf countries, raising concerns about the virus’s potential spread.
In a separate case, another passenger arriving from Sharjah, identified as Javed Ahmed from Rajanpur, exhibited symptoms of mpox during airport screening. He has been placed in an isolation ward as a precautionary measure.
Mpox is a viral infection that spreads through contact with infected animals or humans.
The disease typically presents with symptoms such as a rash starting on the face and spreading to the rest of the body, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue.
Symptoms generally develop within 7–14 days of exposure, and the illness typically lasts 2–4 weeks.
