Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), objected to government’s failure in coordination with coalition members.
He expressed these views at the oath-taking ceremony of Officers and Employees (CBA) of Organization gas development company limited.
Speaking to the masses he said, “No government can resist the force of masses.
He advised the authorities to focus more on solving the existing issues rather than political arrests and discharges.
Bilawal went on to emphasize that “the PPP has always been there to stand with the working class for three generations.”
He recalled supporting workers and their right to their deserved compensation in the case of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s election.
Moreover, he highlighted the struggle in opposing dictators in the case of Benazir Bhutto.
He also stressed the commitment of PPP to both labour rights and respect of worker dignity.
The PPP chairman also agreed that workers are very significant in democratic struggles.
He remarked, “Labourers and the PPP together resisted conspiracies during authoritarian regimes.
Bhutto-Zardari noted that PPP governments always prioritized labour-friendly policies.
He also draws attention to the first labour policy, the creation of the pension system, and the setting of minimum wages by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
He thus reminisced his term as the foreign minister and touched upon the difficulties faced by officials in the Foreign Office.
He revealed that salary increments had not occurred since 2011, resulting in outdated pay scales by 2023.
He intervened to set these salaries to reflect inflation, thus improving officials’ working conditions.
Bhutto-Zardari referred to the need for governance that is consonant with public desire.
He claimed, “No system can be maintained without public approval; history confirms that such regimes fall apart.
According to him, he also critiqued unilateral action saying, it has a tendency to ultimately fail.
Nevertheless, policies resulting from consensus as in the 18th Amendment, are long lasting.
He noted that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, despite holding full authority, prioritized creating a constitution through collective decision-making.
Acknowledging PPP’s limitations, he stated, “We cannot meet all labourers’ demands but will advocate for them with the government.
He emphasized the importance of unity and issue-based politics over divisive rhetoric, urging focus on national development.
