Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) Amendment Bill was introduced by Federal Law minister in the question hour of the NA .
The legislation aims to introduce major reforms in order to modernize and enhance the effectiveness of the judicial system.
According to the proposed legislation, 108 amendments are proposed to cover problems in case registration, prosecution, and judicial judgment.
Tarar emphasised the need for change. He pointed out how these obsolete processes no longer do the justice system any good.
He mentioned that many complaints had been reported about procedural delays, ranging from filing cases to getting final judgments.
The minister also admitted the difficulties involved in prosecution department in the provinces.
Moreover, he added that “performance has fallen considerably short of expectations.
Tarar also referred to as the state’s burden of providing effective prosecution and lifting roadblocks. These exist especially at the stages of the judicial system.
These amendments are intended to necessitate courts to reach a decision on a case within 6 to 12 months.
He added, if a court does not rule the case closed on a discharge report, it is obliged to release the suspect on bail.
Main purpose of the bill
The bill, moreover, attempts to shorten downcast judicial proceedings. It guarantees justice quickly for all those requiring it.
Tarar also stressed the need to update the legal framework in order to answer current demands. Moreover, it aims to tackle deep systemic inefficiencies.
The bill proposes 108 changes in the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The following proposed amendments will be forwarded to the standing committee for assessment and scrutiny.
Lawmakers will carefully review the bill, provide feedback and make amendments before it’s finalized.
