The Deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, announced the adjournment of the session after expressing frustration over the repeated absence of federal ministers.
He declared that the house would not continue to function under such circumstances and warned that if ministers failed to attend next week, proceedings would not be held.
The session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah. Both opposition and government coalition members criticized the ministers’ absence, terming it disrespectful and unprofessional.
PTI leader and former speaker Asad Qaiser criticized the lack of ministers during the question and answer session. He described it as unacceptable and called for a five-minute suspension of the session in protest.
PPP member Agha Rafiullah, emphasizing the importance of ministers’ presence, requested the session to be postponed until their arrival, even going as far as folding his hands in front of the Deputy Speaker.
Senior PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar pointed out that it is the constitutional duty of ministers to attend the assembly and fulfill their responsibilities towards the house. He called for stricter measures to address the issue.
The Deputy Speaker acknowledged the ongoing issue, stating that a similar ruling had been issued the previous day, where it was decided that a letter would be sent to the Prime Minister. He criticized the government for its lack of seriousness.
The session was adjourned until 11:00 AM on Friday, with the Deputy Speaker issuing a stern warning about the potential disruption of proceedings if ministers continued to remain absent.
