President-elect Donald Trump has announced to appoint David Perdue, the former U.S. Senator as the next U.S. Ambassador to China.
Trump made this announcement on social media platform, Truth Social. “I’m proud to announce David Perdue as our Ambassador to China”, Trump wrote.
In this declaration Trump mentioned that his core aim is to promote regional stability and engage productively with Chinese leadership.
Donald Trump always gave tough stance regarding China’s trade policies and the import of fentanyl to US. Throughout his campaign, the President-elect stressed to implement a 10% tariff on Chinese goods unless China takes stronger measures to address the flow of fentanyl, a highly addictive opioid that has worsened the U.S. public health crisis.
“David will negotiate with our Chinese counterparts to tackle critical issues between our nations, including achieving fair trade practices and combating the fentanyl epidemic”, Trump wrote.
The opioid crisis, which caused deaths of thousands American annually, is caused by fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, many of which are imported from China.
Now this announcement to appoint Perdue’s as U.S ambassador to China showed Trump’s commitment to addressing these challenges with better approach.
“David’s expertise in international business and his ability to navigate complex financial issues make him especially well-suited for this important role,” Trump mentioned.
Trump further said that Perdue’s deep understanding of the economic and diplomatic challenges in case of China will be helpful in advancing US national interests.
