Prominent Sikh political leader Sukhbir Singh Badal sustained a life taking attempt at India’s Golden Temple in Amritsar on Wednesday. Culprit was arrested at the spot.
Attacker came to the Golden temple as visitor and tried to assassinate Mr. Badal the president of Shiromani Akali Dal party. The security team of Badal tackled the situation smartly and the shooter was arrested before he could make another attempt.
The culprit named as Narain Singh was suppressed by the spectators and was given under custody of police.
In accordance with the orders of Sikh Leaders Badal was practicing reparation because of his misconduct during his party’s administration in Punjab.
The incident was condemned by many renowned political leaders including Punjab congress president Amarinder Singh raja Warring. Warring criticized the management, organization, security measures and policy regarding safety of the state. He stressed the suspension of the Additional commissioner of police and demanded to focus on betterment of law-and-order situation.
Police officer Harpal Singh ensured that the security of Badal has been increased after the incident. Police have started investigation to know the basic purpose and goals of this assassination attempt.
As per police reports, Narain Chaura has a criminal record. He was indulged in arms smuggling, Khalistan insurgency in Punjab in 1980’s.
Police are investigating Chaura’s motive for the attack, though his links to radical elements in the region have raised concerns.
