Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has cautioned that “imposing a ban on PTI would be an immense mistake.”
Speaking to reporters after his appearance at a Lahore anti-terrorism court, Qureshi voiced his alarm over rumors that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) might be subjected to governor’s rule, claiming that this would amount to inciting enmity and division within the region.
Qureshi emphasized that the political climate of the nation would not improve if PTI were banned.
He said that “attempting to crush PTI wasn’t going to be in the best interest of Pakistan’s politics” and that all political parties should prioritize the welfare of the country.
He also questioned the efficacy of the government’s bans on other political parties, including Pakistan Awami Tehreek and Tehreek-e-Labbaik.
Qureshi also expressed gratitude to Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for opposing the concept of outlawing the PTI.
Mahmood Achakzai was also commended for his opposition to the move.
The Awami National Party (ANP) leader, Senator Aimal Wali Khan, earlier on Friday emphasized the Pashtun community’s profound sorrow over the recent Kurram occurrences and offered solidarity with anybody pursuing peace.
He said that the region’s ongoing difficulties would not be resolved by enforcing Governor’s Rule in K-P.
