Senior journalist Matiullah Jan bail has been approved by the An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad in a terrorism and narcotics case.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas allowed the release of senior journalist after he submitted Rs10,000 surety bonds.
During the court hearing, Matiullah’s defense team argued that the charges were completely baseless. They also stated that the charges violated press freedom and the right to free speech. The court reviewed all the details carefully and ruled in favor of granting bail.
After the bail Matiullah stated that the court’s decision is a step toward justice. He also emphasized the importance of freedom of speech in the country.
Previously, Matiullah was detained by Islamabad police for allegations of involvement in terrorist activities and using narcotics.
This case sparked the public attention as media organizations and human rights groups condemned the detention of Matiullah Jan. Many journalists called it an attempt to restrict free journalism in the country.
