Pakistan cricket star Wasim Akram was harassed by a spectator during the first Test match between India and Australia, prompting plans to strengthen security at Perth’s Optus Stadium.
Shortly after signing an autograph, Akram, who is presently in Australia as a Star Sports pundit, was subjected to insults by a fan, according to the Daily Mail.
Officials have determined that the abuse was not motivated by race, but the reason for the harassment is yet unknown.
In response, Cricket Australia has promised to strengthen security measures in order to stop such occurrences. In order to protect themselves, commentators will now have the choice to be picked up by cars within the stadium.
Although the reason for the abuse is yet unknown, the fan was quickly led from the scene.
Wasim Akram also known as ‘Sultan of Swing’ made his debut for his country on November 23, 1984, in the second One-Day International against New Zealand at Faisalabad. He soon made his Test debut in Auckland against the same opponent, and in just his second Test match for Pakistan, he attracted attention with a fifer in each of the two innings. In the late 1980s, he was a consistent player for the team until an injury kept him out.
