Conor McGregor, an Irish mixed martial arts fighter, was found guilty of assaulting a lady at a Dublin party in 2018 and was ordered to pay her damages of about 250,000 euros ($259,950).
After six hours and ten minutes of deliberation, the jury—which consisted of eight women and four men—received their judgment in the civil trial at Ireland’s top court.
During two weeks of testimony, the court heard the plaintiff, Nikita Hand, alleging that on December 9, 2018, McGregor sexually attacked her and that another guy, James Lawrence, did the same.
The jury concluded that Hand was not assaulted by Lawrence. After leaving the court amid a flurry of media without saying anything, McGregor said on X that he intended to appeal the ruling.
McGregor, 36, claimed to have had “fully consensual sex” with Hand and refuted the accusation. Additionally, he denied bruising the complainant.
Hand’s attorney said the jury that a doctor was so alarmed that he ordered pictures of her injuries to be taken when she was sent to a sexual assault treatment facility the day following the alleged attack.
Hand said that during a Christmas party at work, she and a friend got in touch with McGregor, whom she knew. She said that McGregor took them to a party in a rooftop suite at a hotel in south Dublin where people used narcotics and drank beer.
She said that McGregor sexually abused her after bringing her into a luxury bedroom.
Speaking outside the court, Hand expressed her feelings of vindication and said she had been flooded by the support she had received.
