Azhar Ali, a former national captain, has been named chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Youth Development program.
In a statement released on Friday, the cricket board acknowledged the situation.
The announcement said, “As a member of the Men’s National Selection Committee, this role will be an addition of Azhar’s existing responsibilities.”
Before joining the senior national squad, Azhar, a well-known name in Pakistani cricket, started his career in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in 2002. He amassed 97 Test and 53 ODI caps throughout his illustrious career, which ran from 2010 to 2022.
He was a vital part of Pakistan’s historic ICC Champions Trophy-winning team in 2017 and led the national team in nine Test matches and thirty-one One-Day Internationals.
The PCB states that Azhar’s duties in this position will include creating strong grassroots cricket infrastructure and talent paths, as well as creating and executing comprehensive youth cricket initiatives in order to influence Pakistan cricket’s future.
Additionally, he will work with regional cricket organizations to improve age-group programs, train up-and-coming players through the PCB’s Pathways Programme, and host clinics and seminars to raise understanding of the fundamentals of off-field development for aspiring players.
