Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman clarified on Thursday that no orders have been issued to suspend mobile phone services.
Speaking to the media, he emphasized that such a decision has not been made at this time.
The chairman also highlighted that detailed guidelines for registering Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are now available on the PTA’s official website.
These instructions cater to both individual users and businesses, aiming to simplify the registration process.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the federal government is contemplating the activation of a national firewall, following disruptions to internet and mobile services in parts of Islamabad. This measure is believed to be linked to anticipated protests in the capital.
Insiders have indicated that service suspensions might extend to areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and districts in Punjab starting November 23.
However, the PTA chairman dismissed these speculations, asserting that no such steps are currently being taken.
The situation remains fluid, with authorities closely monitoring developments in the capital and surrounding regions.
Earlier, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) says that a secure process has been introduced for registration of unregistered and illegal VPN.
Previously, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has started to block unregistered Virtual Private Networks.
Unregistered VPNs are being temporarily blocked in Pakistans until the further orders.
The Telecommunication Authority has mandated virtual private network registration for users, discontinuing the availability of free private network services on the Internet.
The PTA held a stakeholder consultation on the VPN registration framework, in which representatives from the Ministry of IT, PSEB, and the Pakistan IT Association participated.
PTA announced a secure VPN registration process, allowing users to register through a new online platform.
