US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Linda McMahon as US new education secretary, which will put the former pro-wrestling giant in power of position.
Trump said in a statement that Linda, who has served as the Chair of the Board at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) for the past four years, has been a strong supporter of parents’ rights and has worked tirelessly at AFPI and America First Works (AFW) to establish Universal School Choice in 12 States, ensuring that all children have access to a top-notch education regardless of their income or zip code.
According to Trump, she will work “tirelessly” to increase universal school choice in the US. Former Commerce Secretary McMahon led Trump’s first administration’s Small Business Administration and was a significant contributor and early backer of the Republican presidential candidate when he first entered the White House over ten years ago.
In 2019, she left the SBA to serve as the head of the pro-Trump spending organization America First Action. She was a co-founder and former CEO of the professional wrestling company WWE. She is also the chair of the Trump-friendly think organization America First Policy Institute.
She was chosen by Trump to co-lead a transition committee that was established to assist in hiring and policy drafting in advance of the election on November 5.
Trump selected Howard Lutnick, the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, who was a co-leader of McMahon’s transition team, as the head of the Commerce Department on Tuesday.
She will now be in charge of an agency. Trump declared throughout the campaign that he would abolish, but he probably doesn’t have the power to do so without the consent of Congress.
