Switzerland enforced a burqa ban on women and officially announced the formal date for the implementation.
Previously, daily, Muslim women were facing problems wearing the burqa in various European countries.
The European country Switzerland officially announced the implementation of its controversial burqa ban.
As reported by Al-Arabiya, the Switzerland government will implement a burqa ban from January 1, 2025. The Swiss government announced the date on Wednesday.
Muslim women are directed to not wear burqa in public places.
A 2021 referendum, passed by a narrow majority, drew strong condemnation from Muslim associations. They argued that the move was driven by the same sentiments behind the 2009 ban on mosque minarets.
The Swiss Federal Council issued a statement saying that the council has set a date for the practical implementation of the burqa ban.
The announcement clarifies that the ban will not apply on ships or in diplomatic spaces, and Muslim women will still be permitted to wear the niqab in places of worship.
According to the council’s statement, face-covering will remain allowed for health and safety needs, as well as for protection against cultural or weather-related factors. Face coverings will also be permitted for artistic purposes.
Additionally, the statement notes that if a woman requires a veil for personal protection, it will be permitted.
