US Elections Results: Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump are running for the White House, with polls virtually closed across the United States early Wednesday – although results are still being reported.
US Elections official results are yet to be announced while republicans wait for Donald Trump’s victory speech.
So far, US media projections show Trump winning 24 states, including huge winners Texas and Ohio, important battlegrounds Georgia and North Carolina, and other solidly Republican-leaning states.
Harris has so far won 15 states, including large electoral votes in California and New York, as well as the US capital, Washington.
So far, Trump has 243 electoral votes, while Harris has 194.
The magic number for winning the presidency is 270. Observers believe the highly contested campaign for the White House will come down to a few crucial battleground states.
In New Mexico, Kamala Harris declared victory, giving the Democrats the state’s five electoral votes.
The conservative vote in rural sections of New Mexico was overshadowed by Harris’s strong support in the state’s more populated areas, even though she did not visit the state herself.
In addition, Harris won in a number of Democratic bastions, including New York, California, Vermont, and Maryland. Among the states that Harris won were Hawaii, which gave her campaign four electoral votes, and California, where she garnered 54 electoral votes.
Given its size and Democratic slant, California is a crucial victory for Harris. These states have typically backed Democratic nominees.
