According to well-informed officials in the Ministry of Industries and Production, the government, in an apparent attempt to make more forgiving rulings, replaced Petroleum Minister Dr. Musadik Malik as Chairman of the Sugar Monitoring Committee with Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar.
Dr. Musadlik Masood Malik was deemed too severe at a few Sugar Monitoring Committee sessions, and members of the government were informed of his “inappropriate” behavior.
The Sugar Advisory Board (SAB) met on October 8, 2024, at the Ministry of Industries and Production (MOI&P), Islamabad, under the direction of the Federal Minister for Industries and Production, the Industries and Production Division informed the ECC on October 11, 2024.
The Provincial Cane Commissioners, FBR, and PSMA presented statistics on sugar stockpiles for the crushing year 2023–2024 to SAB during the conference.
According to the agreement, the overall consumption for the final ten months of the current crushing year 2023–2024 was 5.456 million MT, excluding exports, and the current sugar stock was 2.054 million MT as of September 30, 2024.
Therefore, an extra 0.500 million MT of exports might have been made if the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) could guarantee that sugar cane crushing would start by the third week of November. As a result, within the guidelines outlined in the minutes, SAB suggested exporting 0.500 million MT of sugar.
