Jemima Goldsmith, the ex-wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, claimed that the former Prime Minister is being kept in complete darkness, with the electricity in his cell cut off and no permission to leave.
In a statement on social media platform X, Jemima Goldsmith stated that reports have surfaced indicating that authorities have turned off the lights and power in his cell, and he is not allowed to leave at any time.
She accused the jail’s cook of being sent on leave, leaving Imran completely isolated under his prison sentence, truly in the dark without any contact with the outside world.
Jemima noted that his lawyers are also concerned about his safety and well-being.
She mentioned that these actions are part of ongoing attacks against Imran Khan’s family, as well as his party (PTI) members and supporters, aimed at silencing them and suppressing political dissent in Pakistan.
Jemima pointed out that Imran Khan’s nephew, Hassaan Niazi, is a civilian and has been imprisoned since August 2023. Additionally, Imran’s sisters, Azma and Aleema Khan, were recently arrested while peacefully protesting on his behalf and are now in jail despite the lack of any reasonable or legal grounds for their detention.
72-year-old Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023 following a corruption conviction, and he has received sentences in various corruption cases, including the Toshakhana case. However, he had previously been allowed to speak to the media and meet with party leaders and relatives during court hearings, but these permissions were suspended last week on security grounds.
The government imposed a ban on visits to prisoners in jails across Punjab due to security threats.
On the other hand, the PTI demanded that, due to concerns about Imran Khan’s health, his personal physician should be allowed to meet him.
