U.S. Department of Justice has arrested an Afghan man accused of planning an attack on Election Day on behalf of Daesh.
Accused is a 27 year old man, named Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, a resident of Oklahoma City.
FBI Director Christopher Wray reported that Tawhedi was plotting a violent assault in the U.S.
According to reports Tawhedi’s was stocking firearms in preparation for the attack. Charges against Tawhedi revealed that he is a part of a foreign terrorist organization.
“Tawhedi was collaborating with a juvenile relative, who was also from Afghanistan. Both were consuming Daesh propaganda online” reports say.
U.S Officials also recovered AK-47 rifles from the suspect’s location.
“Tawhedi arranged a meeting with undercover FBI agents on October 7 to purchase the weapons. This meeting resulted in his arrest”, officials say.
Authorities reported that Tawhedi admitted his plans during the investigation.
“Tawhedi entered the U.S. in September 2021 with his wife and a child on a special immigrant visa. His family settled in Oklahoma City” investigation report say.
Attorney General Merrick Garland also condemned the ongoing threats by Daesh.
He appreciated the Justice Department’s efforts to figure out individuals who want to harm U.S. national security.
