Four new cases of the polio virus confirmed in Pakistan. The total number of cases reported in 2024 is 32.
The latest cases emerged from Jacobabad, Malir districts of Karachi, and Dera Ismail Khan.
In Jacobabad, a 32-month-old girl and an 18-month-old boy were diagnosed with the virus in the Thul tehsil.
A six-year-old child in Bin Qasim tehsil of Malir district also tested positive, along with a 22-month-old child in Dera Ismail Khan.
Authorities in Pakistan, along with international health experts, have raised concerns over the potential rise in polio cases.
The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the number of affected children could increase significantly this month, with projections estimating that between 55 to 65 children may be impacted by year-end.
Pakistan remains one of the few countries still grappling with polio.
