Law enforcement officials have detained numerous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters during protests in Lahore.
In response to party leader Imran Khan’s nationwide protest call, demonstrators gathered at prominent sites such as GPO Chowk and Minar-e-Pakistan.
The arrests come amid heightened security measures, as authorities intensify efforts to maintain control. Rangers have been deployed across the city to manage the escalating unrest.
Originally sparked in Islamabad, the PTI protests have now reached Lahore, with PTI supporters assembling at key points despite government-imposed restrictions. Security forces launched a crackdown, arresting multiple activists, including a woman who managed to raise the PTI flag on Minar-e-Pakistan Bridge, bypassing heavy security.
Major entry and exit points in Lahore have been sealed, leading to significant disruptions for residents. The city has experienced severe traffic jams and road closures, causing additional frustration for those attempting to navigate through the chaos.
The Provincial Home Department emphasized that both the Rangers and the army have been called in to preserve peace, particularly in sensitive areas. Their primary mission is to secure vital locations and protect foreign dignitaries attending the high-profile SCO summit.
According to a senior official, “The army and Rangers have been deployed to restore order and protect critical sites across Lahore. They are empowered to detain individuals who jeopardize public safety.”
