Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued a strong warning to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, accusing him for overstepping boundaries.
Speaking to the media, Naqvi accused Gandapur for intensifying the crisis. He said that KP Chief Minister has gone beyond acceptable limits.
“We are monitoring the situation closely. If more lines are crossed, we will take extreme measures,” he warned.
Minister added that Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference is gonna held. He made it clear that the conference will not be disrupted, warning that those involved in attacks will “face consequences.”
During his briefing, Naqvi revealed that 120 afghans have been arrested in PTI protests.
“There are messages instructing protesters to bring weapons. Where did these Afghans come from?” he questioned.
Naqvi also exposed that PTI supporters are using weapons in the protests.
“80 to 85 police officers had been injured during the clashes with the protesters as they used tear gas”, Naqvi reported.
He said that investigations are underway to determine how protesters obtained such large amounts of tear gas.
When asked about declaring an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Naqvi said Prime Minister and President are in constant contact. “The final strategy will be decided after discussions,” he stated.
“We won’t let anyone sabotage the country’s peace.” Naqvi added
Naqvi also apologized to Islamabad’s citizens for the inconvenience caused by the heightened security. He stressed that these measures are essential for their safety.
“We are doing everything to ensure the city’s security. The army and Rangers are deployed, and we will act firmly to restore peace.” Naqvi said
