The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports has officially introduced Pakistan’s e-Passport, marking a significant advancement in travel documentation since the last major update in 2004.
Meeting the United Nations’ International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, the e-Passport ensures higher levels of global security.
Launched nationwide on August 16, 2023, the new e-Passport features an embedded electronic chip, offering improved security over the previous Machine Readable Passport.
The upgraded passport contains personal information, biometric data, a digital signature, and a unique identification number, all stored on a contactless NFC chip for electronic reading.
Benefits of the e-Passport
E-passport not only simplifies international travel but also strengthens Pakistan’s position in global mobility, benefiting overseas Pakistanis and improving the country’s global travel standing.
With over 150 countries worldwide using e-Passports, Pakistani passport holders can now access e-gate facilities at international borders, streamlining immigration processes.
The new passport also facilitates online applications, offering enhanced convenience for travelers.
